Flies as creatures form a community of individualists. They are considered disgusting, annoying, and it's permissible to kill them. In fact, it's seen as a feat of skill to eliminate "seven at one blow" of them, and even electric fly swatters are a modern contribution that confirms humans don't hold flies in high regard. "The Fly" is a staple in my cast of characters. Whether in drawings, as a plush toy, in comics, or in movies, she represents an overcomer of self-loathing. She can be loud and sad as she pleases.
